The first major work in Europe by one of the most acclaimed contemporary architects, the Brazilian Paulo Mendes de Rocha, recently awarded the 2017 RIBA Royal Gold Medal and the 2006 Pritzker Prize. It is in Lisbon, in one of the most famous and symbolic esplanades of the city, the Belém area, that the National Coach Museum is located. Built in the reference point of departure for the Portuguese, traveling and overseas, it promises to make you think about the relationship between the big city and the houses, Europe and America, and the very idea of being modern. Architectural File is a collection of books about exceptional works by some of the best architects in the world. Each volume contains an extensive photographic essay, a critical text by a specialist who introduces us to the work's reading and an essay by a prominent author, outside the practice of architecture, who lends his sensitive eye to the revelation of architecture. Together with selected bibliography, chronology of selected works and a fold-out panel with project drawings and constructive details, this collection constitutes a key piece in the deep and rigorous understanding of works that make up the mastery of the practice of architecture.
